Application and selection overview
Select a pressure transmitter by range, accuracy, medium, process connection and output.
Key parameters to confirm
| Item | Information to provide |
|---|---|
| Measurement type | Gauge, absolute or differential pressure, including positive and negative direction. |
| Range and overpressure | Normal range, maximum transient pressure, engineering unit and allowable overload. |
| Medium and temperature | Gas, liquid, steam or corrosive medium, plus process and ambient temperatures. |
| Process connection | Thread, flange, sanitary connection, diaphragm seal and mounting orientation. |
| Output and approvals | 4–20 mA, HART, fieldbus, supply, hazardous-area protection and regional approvals. |
RFQ checklist
- Provide the full order code and a clear nameplate photograph.
- State normal, minimum and maximum values and any pressure pulsation.
- Confirm wetted-material compatibility with the process medium.
- List connection, output, accuracy, display and hazardous-area requirements.
Common mistakes and risks
- An excessive range reduces useful resolution while an undersized range risks overload.
- Ignoring compatibility of diaphragms, seals and fill fluid with medium and temperature.
- Confusing NPT, G and metric threads or flange pressure classes.
Frequently asked questions
How much range margin is required?
It depends on steady pressure, pulsation, startup surge and the manufacturer overpressure rating; a fixed percentage cannot replace a process review.
Does HART replace 4–20 mA?
HART is commonly superimposed on the 4–20 mA signal, but supply, resistance, host and system configuration must still be compatible.
How is high-temperature media handled?
A siphon, remote seal or capillary may be needed, with fill-fluid and ambient limits checked.
